Please briefly introduce yourself and state current activity
 
私はローンアンダーソンと申します。　15期生のロータリー平和フェローとして、昨年6月にICUを卒業しました。　平和フェローとして、宗教間のコミュニティー発展について研究しました。　特に、異宗教、異文化を超えての健全なコミュニティーの発展という点に注力しました。　このプログラムの過程で2か月エルサレムを訪問し、研究に努め、この経験をもとに学術論文を完成させました。
My name is Lorne Anderson, I am Rotary Peace Fellow from class 15. I graduated with honors in June last year. As a Peace Fellow, my research was focused on inter-religious community development. Specifically encouraging healthy communities across differences of religion and culture. I spent two months researching organizations in Jerusalem during the program, and my research dissertation was about those experiences.
 
私は現在、東久留米の国際教会に努めています。　現在、教育と、説教の分野の責任者を務めています。　また、若手のリーダー育成プログラムを開発し、組織の中で有効なリーダー育成の相談相手をしております。　この教会は南極大陸以外のすべての大陸から信徒が集まっている国際教会です。　多様性とはすばらしいものです。　しかし一方で文化的、語学的な難しさにも直面しています。　私の平和フェローでの勉強は、コミュニティー発展、平和主義、公平な世界の構築という点で現在の仕事にも非常に役立っています。
I am currently working for an International Church in Higashikurume. I am the director of teaching and preaching, I am developing a youth leadership program and am doing some organizational consultancy to promote effective leadership within the organization. The Church is an international congregation, with members from who come from every continent (except Antarctica of course.) The diversity is amazing, but it also leads to serious intercultural and language-related challenges. My Peace Fellow training has come in very useful as I work to encourage a community-minded, peace-focused, and equality promoting community.
 
 
なぜロータリー平和フェローを選んだのか？
2) Please briefly explain why you choose to be Rotary Peace Fellow
 
三つの理由があり、平和フェローを選びました。　特に日本のICUセンターを。
There were three clear reasons that I applied to be a Rotary Peace Fellow, specifically at the Peace Center in Japan.
 
第一に
私は平和学の大学に通い、これまでの通常の文化の世界とは違った世界の研究をしてきました。　北アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、オーストラリアでの教育の経験がありますが、全て類似した西洋文化、世界での経験でした。　従い日本での教育を受ける事は、これまでと違った文化世界の考え方に接する機会となりました．　私は将来も全世界レベルでのキャリアを積んでいきたいと思っています。その意味でも、日本の一流の大学で勉強できるというのは非常に貴重な経験であると思いました。
Firstly:
I was attracted to doing a Master’s in Peace Studies at a university that was outside of my usual cultural perspective. I had already had education experiences in North America, Europe, and Australia and I had found that they all represented a similar ‘western’ worldview. Learning in Japan provided an opportunity to access education that represented a different perspective. I hope to work in a global context later in my career, and therefore, I thought studying at a leading university in Japan would be a very valuable experience.

ICU がロータリー平和センターの中で唯一、宗教間の研究ができるセンターであったことです。　それは哲学的、文化的な和解について研究する意義づけとなりました。私は、この考え方は国際的な秩序のバランスが崩れ始めている近年、また、保守的な考えと自由主義的な考えの緊張が高まっている近年において、非常に重要な研究領域と思っている。　私は更に政府や、国際的なレベルの技量を高めていくことを望んでおり、まさにICUは最適な選択であったと考えている。
Secondly:
ICU is one of the only Rotary Peace Center’s that has courses focused on inter-religious issues. It also encourages study into philosophy and intercultural reconciliation. I think these areas will be increasingly important in the coming years as countries work through the changes in the balance of international order and the increasing tension between conservative and liberal groups in national populations. I wanted to develop the skills that could be useful at governmental and international levels and so ICU was a good choice.

オーストラリアでは、第三期の教育は非常に高額教育になってきている。　コミュニティー発展の研究、勉学に努めたい人は、すでに高給取りになっており、第三期教育に向けることはまず行わない。　まさに自分が従事している事業にも相応のコストがかかっており、その上で、研究に打ち込む時間を見つけることはかなり難しい。　従ってロータリー平和センタープログラムのように、自分としてさらに借金を増やすことなく、コミュニティー発展学の研究ができる機会はこの上なく貴重なものである。
Thirdly:
In Australia, tertiary education is becoming increasingly expensive. People who chose to work in community development do not do so because it has a high salary. Therefore, finding the right time to study is often difficult because it comes at the cost of the community projects that we are a part of. Having the opportunity to study and graduate without accumulating more debt is exceptionally valuable to people who have been working in community development.
 
 
自分の将来の目指すところ、また平和構築への寄与について簡潔に教えてください。
3) Please briefly state your idea of future program after study and state how you will contribute world peace building
 
私は、様々なコンサルタント並びに政府系の役目につきたいと考えている。　特に文化的な仲裁、コミュニティー開発の分野で貢献したい。　現在東京でのこの分野の仕事には、非常に喜びを得ている。　日本に来る前、オーストラリアに住んで働いていました。　いつかは、オーストラリアに戻り、宗教間を取り持つ仕事や、オーストラリア　先住民族と私のコミュニティーとを結びつけるような改善機会を得るような仕事に就きたいと思います。
I am hoping to work in various consultancy and government-related roles, specifically in the area of cultural mediation and community development. I am excited by the opportunity to work in this field here in Tokyo. Before coming to Japan, I was living and working in Australia and one day I hope to return to Australia to continue working in inter-religious work and working at improving opportunities for indigenous Australians in my community.

4) Please state any message to Rotarian, if any
 
ロータリー平和フェローは私にとって、素晴らしいい経験となりました。　日本で学べた機会や研究は、言葉に表せないほど重要なものです。　私は妻を連れてきましたが、妻もまさに日本に恋をしてしまいました。　二人でまさにたくさんの経験をし、成長しました。　日本で世界の見方の新しい見方を身に着けました。　また、日本で、おもてなしの考え、寛容であることの意味を勉強しました。　日本のロータリアンの皆様の寛容性には驚くほどでした。私たちは、このことを自分たちの人生の上での価値として身に着けていきたいです。
The Rotary Peace Fellowship has been a tremendous opportunity for me. I am exceptionally grateful for the training and opportunities that I have had here in Japan. I moved here with my wife, and she has also fallen in love with Japan. Together we have grown a lot. Japan has taught us new ways of seeing the world, has challenged us to be better in our hospitality and has encouraged us to be more generous. The generosity of Rotarians in Japan has been incredible and we hope that we can follow your example as our careers develop.
 
私は2点をみなさまお伝えしたいです。一つはどうかこのプログラムを継続し続けてください。　あなた方が支援していただいているフェローは世界を永続的に変化させていきます。　ロータリアンの支援がこのような変化をより具体的なものにし、地域、世界レベルでの平和の育成につながるものと信じてます。
I would like to encourage you with two things. Firstly, please continue to support and develop this program. The students you are supporting are going to make lasting changes in this world, and because of your support those changes will be better informed and will hopefully promote more peace at local and global levels.
 
加えて、このプログラムをもっと日本人の方々にも知って欲しいです。　米国、英国、オーストラリア、の平和センターで研究していた日本人の平和フェローと出会う機会がありました。　全員このプログラムの価値を強調するとともに、この先の仕事でも必ず役に立つものであることを強調しています。　ぜひロータリアンの皆様に各地の日本人平和フェローとの接点も増やしてください。　日本人の声が、将来、地域や、国際的な平和構築に役立つ日が必ず来ることでしょう。
Additionally, I would like to encourage you to make this program known to more Japanese students. I have met Japanese peace-fellows who have studied at the Peace centers in the United States, in England and in Australia and each one emphasized the value of the program and the improvement in the kind of work they had access too afterward. I hope that you can share this opportunity to as many students as possible so that there are more Japanese voices contributing to local and international peacebuilding work in the future.
